Another Reason to Not Jump the Broom by Lil Eva
Neither of your asses has any money, LITERALLY!
I know its rough out there and it may be another six months before any of us sees the slightest bit of relief in the economic downturn but this ...WTF?
Now read this article and judge for yourself or if you don't feel like it right now, here's a breeze shot for you-
- Groom was kicked out of his house at 14 and has been homeless for the past 14 yrs (yes, he's 28).
- Bride is 11 yrs his senior and wound up on the streets due to alcohol and drug abuse.
Oh yeah...they met in a Washington, DC church about 9 years ago. No working history is mentioned.
Now, I'm not being pessimistic about marriage or even celebrating a union with a nice wedding. Couples with money have problems. Women that are "perfect wives" will kill you in your sleep or during sex (watch Snapped on the Oxygen channel if you don't believe me). Perfect husbands are gay or have another family. Just my observations (and it's not restricted to straight couples, either!)
Another observation was the the "church" saw to it that they had a nice wedding with cake and flowers, etc. How 'bout just throwing them a rent party/job fair with a Food-4-Less (or other bag-it-yourself grocery chain) gift card with the promise of a trial marriage (a.k.a. shack up) for no more than two yrs.
I'm just saying!

I'm not saying that marriage in general is like this. What I am saying is this, a person may have been dealt some cards in life that eventually lead to some sort of addiction. They have no money for a traditional rehab center so they turn to the church. It may not be enough that certain congregation members will have their eye one them at all times but will apply theories that are not always applicable to these times. From the sound of the original article, this couple may not have received real advice for long-term survival. Just something from a book that has many versions and can be contradictory.
