GENEROUS: For All Lovers of Psychedelic Soul and Alternative Funk
For All Lovers of Psychedelic Soul and Alternative Funk
In one of those moods. First I needed Andy Gibb (go figure), then Duran Duran and somehow I was on the lookout for Joi, a seriously underrepresented artist from the 90s (though I didn't hear her music until 1999). So to YouTube I go. Not only do I find what got destroyed during my last move but I see she did a Betty Davis cover. This Betty Davis was briefly married to Miles Davis in the late 60s but she had music career on her own terms (there's an article about her in the latest issue of Bitch magazine). Put it like this, LaBelle was funky but to paraphrase Ike Turner (I know), her funk came from 'down there'. I like Joi's music better but you judge for yourself. Enjoy!
